UPDATE — MoTI’s bridge engineer continues to assess the Kispiox Bridge after arriving at the scene early Thursday evening. The bridge was closed yesterday morning after one of our snow plow trucks clipped several of the wood bridge’s vertical support structures with a wing blade, causing structural damage.
We are currently working on opening up the Mitten FSR as a detour route. DRM’s grader started from the Hwy 37 side and had cleared about five kilometres of the road as of 7 a.m. this morning. The Kispiox Band has sent a grader in to the road from the Kispiox side. We are waiting for an update on how far they have progressed.
There is a D8 Cat on the move this morning from Stewart down to the Mitten Road. We are also relocating snow cats from Meziadin down to the Mitten Road this morning to assist the D8 and DRM grader.
Crews will work 24 hours a day to open the Mitten up. It is not possible to say when the Mitten Road will be open to vehicle travel, as there is significant work to do. We will provide information updates through our social media sites and Drive BC.
The Kispiox Bridge is open to foot traffic only.
